Abandoned Chateau [014]

Chateau Miranda
Chateau Miranda

Visited in July 2014 with Mieke dontshootdarling and again in March 2015 with Oli-Graph.

This one deserves a bit of history:
The French Revolution – the count of Liedekerke-Beaufort was evacuated from his castle and took refuge in a farmhouse. When the Revolution calmed down his family transformed the farm into a castle with the help of the English architect Edward Milner. The French architect Pelchner built the central tower in 1903 and completed the castle in 1907. It became the summer residence of the Liedekerke-Beaufort family.
During the Second World War, the castle was occupied briefly by German troops.
In 1950 it became a holiday center for children of Belgian Railway employees.
Due to a fire and dry rot, the castle was abandoned in 1991.
At the end of 2013 the count of Liedekerke-Beaufort asked permission to demolish the castle. But on the 6th of february in 2014, Minister Antonio Di Carlo put the castle on the backup list for protected buildings, which gave one year to determine if the castle is worth to be ranked. Now the one year period has passed and it was decided the castle will not be on the list of protected buildings. The count still wants to demolish the castle but is open to listen to anyone who comes with a serious offer, but time is running out…
I hope this place will be saved, but the castle is in really bad shape and renovating will cost a fortune.

On with the pictures, it’s a mixture from both my visits and at the bottom I included some old pictures I found on the internet from when the castle wasn’t abandoned…
